Acupuncture in San Luis Obispo

What to expect if you are an Acupuncture Patient at LiveWellSLO Chiropractic + Wellness?  Our Acupuncturists are trained to perform a clinical assessment which leads to a differential diagnosis of the root cause of what is keeping you from being healthy.  Using sterile, thin needles inserted into the body at specific acupressure or ashi points along the body, our Acupuncturists can help relieve symptoms and promote healing!

Kate August, L.Ac.

Meet Kate August, L.Ac.

Hi I’m Kate August and I’m excited to be joining Live Well Slo as a clinical acupuncturist and herbalist.  While I see patients of all ages, I have a particular interest in elder care and enjoy supporting people during the various phases and changes of life.

I love my work and am honored to help you find balance in your body. I believe we all have an innate ability to heal — acupuncture and herbal medicine are one of the many ways that can help bring your body back into balance.  Being an athlete my whole life, I have a special interest in orthopedic acupuncture, utilizing trigger point therapy to release stagnation. Knowing our physical and emotional bodies are deeply connected, I practice Sa’am Korean Four Needle Technique to utilize the energy that already exists in the body and redirect the flow in a way that is most beneficial to you.

In addition to my acupuncture work, I teach herbal medicine therapeutics and have been sharing plant knowledge for almost ten years at the California School of Herbal Studies. I hold a Masters in Science with a focus on acupuncture and east Asian medicine from the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences.  I am happy to be a guide for your healing goals via acupuncture, nutrition or herbal medicinal support.

When not in the clinic you can find me in nature, preferably by the water’s edge — if you see me in the wild, please say hello!

Using fine needles, which do not cause pain, your acupuncturist will use techniques to reinvigorate the flow of energy, help regulate the nervous system and ultimately help with the elimination of symptoms.

Fire Cupping at LiveWellSLO in San Luis Obispo

Fire Cupping

Fire Cupping (30 minutes)     $75

Fire cupping is a technique that can be a very therapeutic experience. The skin is lightly oiled, which allows the cups to slide up and down the meridian channels breaking up stagnation in the muscles. Cupping is both beneficial for the patient but also very informative for the practitioner. The cups pull stagnation up from the fascia of the muscles and bring it to the surface; the coloring left on the skin can provide diagnostic information for the practitioner. Cupping marks, referred to as sha, will be processed by the body over a few hours or days.  Cupping done regularly for a duration of time is shown to reduce inflammatory agents and promote overall healing.
